GIFTS
Sadira is barely aware of what she really wants in life, let alone what someone might give her to curry favor. But she has a soft spot for books and learning as well as training and discipline. Tokens of faith from the Chantry would be well received. As would anything that might help her understand the basics of fighting and combat or information on being a Knight-Enchanter.

Sadira also has little experience with luxury items like fine silks or alcohol. These will earn small points of favor so long as the novelty does not wear off.

INVENTORY (items of note)
  • Silver ring with a crystalline yellow band- Cool to the touch and allows for a slight boost to ice attacks or adds an ice element to a weapon. The ring also provides a minor bonus to cold protection. (Won in the snow fight)

Not Giving In - Rudimental (Feat. John Newman & Alex Clare
Mm, not giving in.
I'm not giving in,
Not giving in,
Ooh I'm not giving in, yeah.

Warrior inside - Leader
I'm alive, a revolution, lies inside.
I'm alive, no longer, will this hate, divide and I'll stand.
I will fight, just to survive, I won't be denied,
I'm a warrior, inside.

Get Started - Nick Nolan
Hold tight,
The night is getting longer
Countdown I feel it getting stronger
Break free and loose your self control
Just light the fuse and let it go

I wanna go Higher - Halcyon Skies
Sometimes, I gotta let go,
go until I hit the ground
I know the lessons I've learned,
I learned the second time around
I've never felt this way before,
I got a taste now I want more
So I'm not giving up, giving up again

Seize the Day - Raphael Lake
Seize the day
Make it never bring you down
You go and do it anyway
Light the way,
Things will always turn around
If you seize the day
You gotta find the spark

Rise - Blockheads
You've gotta stand up
When you're pushed down
Don't stay there sitting numb
Down on the ground
And when you start to fall
forget your fear cause
You will have to rise above it

Adelaide

A fellow circle mage. She is inspirational and a potential mentor. Her words have helped to make Sadira feel the most welcome since she arrived.

Fenris

A shadowy stranger she met on the battlements one night. Sadira finds his stories to be intriguing and his honesty refreshing.

Kas

First Qunari (Vashoth) that she met! Not quite sure how she feels about him yet, but he seems nice enough.

Pel

A Dalish mage, one of the first that Sadira has encountered. Insightful and intelligent, she sparked Sadira's interest in Veilfire.

Inessa

Elf, former Circle mage and a Grey Warden. Has a Mabari named Garahel. they shared a peaceful talk in the Library.

Val

Orlesian. Sadira has conflicting thoughts and feelings towards him. He does manage to bring out her wit and apparently her charm while making her flustered at the same time. Suspects he and Jehan are more than "friends".

Merrill

Dalish Elf. Sadira met her in the Snowfight. She appears to be very friendly and personable.

Norrington

Templar from the Ostwick circle and someone Sadira knows from her past. She respects him and his Templars greatly, but remains a little shy and awkwrd around them.

Thranduil

First rifter that she has knowingly spoken to. The tale he told over the crystal was touching and his voice reaxing. Has no idea what he looks like.

Anders

She met Anders at the Library and he showed he rthe Griffons. She wants to like him but is having a hard tome reconciling with who he is and what he has done.

Korrin

Vashoth, apostate, Knight-Enchanter-in-training. Fascinating to talk to about life outside of a circle.

Jehan

Orlesian. Jeannot, Val's "ego". The less frustrating of the pair. No idea what he looks like.

O Maker, hear my cry:
Guide me through the blackest nights.
Steel my heart against the temptations of the wicked.
Make me to rest in the warmest places.

O Creator, see me kneel:
For I walk only where You would bid me.
Stand only in places You have blessed.
Sing only the words You place in my throat.

My Maker, know my heart:
Take from me a life of sorrow.
Lift me from a world of pain.
Judge me worthy of Your endless pride.

My Creator, judge me whole:
Find me well within Your grace.
Touch me with fire that I be cleansed.
Tell me I have sung to Your approval.

O Maker, hear my cry:
Seat me by Your side in death.
Make me one within Your glory.
And let the world once more see Your favor.

For You are the fire at the heart of the world,
And comfort is only Yours to give.

CHARACTER

Name: Sadira
Canon/OC: OC
Journal: [personal profile] knight_enchanter
Race: Human
Nationality: Free Marcher ( Ostwick Circle)
Occupation: Mage
Age: Early 20's

History
  • Born in a small town within the Free Marches, into a family of non mages who were devoutly Andrastrian.
  • Her magic manifested spectacularly one day in an explosion of lightning that caused a small fire to a nearby field.
  • Her parents sent her to the circle at the age of 8 as  soon as her magic manifested.
  • Mentored by a mage named Serah who was a former apostate that was a few years older and wiser than her.
  • Began to study being a Knight-Enchanter in the hopes of one day becoming one.
  • Serah tried to teach her gentler paths like healing and herb lore but it didn't stick. Sadira's magic was too volatile for healing and plants didn't interest her.
  • Passed her Harrowing after encountering a fear demon that actually helped forge her resolve and her will.
  • Wrote to other circles around Thedas until she got a reply back from the Montsimmard Circle that they were willing to test her  to see if she had the aptitude and skill to become a Knight-Enchanter.
  • Got leave to travel from Ostwick to Montsimmard and did so in the company of a small company of templars bound for Val Royeaux.
  • The events at the White Spire happened right after she and the templars arrived at Val Royeaux, curtailing her travels onwards to Montsimmard.
  • Fearing for her life, she fled with the other mages escaping to Andoral's Reach. She didn't stay there for long, hoping to eventually either find a way back to Ostwick or to another circle.
  • She roamed around for a time with a small cell of mages still loyal to the chantry who had no desire to join the rebel mages when they eventually moved to Redcliffe.
  • Eventually she found her way to Skyhold once she heard the mages had been accepted there.

Personality
Sadira grew up in a devout household and though her family was not wealthy, there was talk of her being sent to serve the chantry in order for her to have the best life possible. For a small child the next village or town would have been an adventure so she had mixed feelings about eventually leaving her family, even if she knew it would one day be expected of her.  At a young age she was already learning to weigh duty and responsibility over her own personal desires and wants.

When her magic manifested, she was afraid of it at first. Every night, Sadira would pray to Andraste, begging her to take her magic away. Another, older apprentice overheard her one night and decided then to take Sadira under wing, teaching her that her magic should be respected even if she was afraid of it. Over time, Sadira grew to respect and tolerate her own magic, though she was always afraid of it and what she might do. In her mind, the only way she would learn not to fear her own magic was if she could control it with the utmost certainty. For her, that certainty came with learning to be a Knight-Enchanter. In her eyes, the life of command and control would certainly instil her with the confidence she felt she otherwise lacked.

Though it is largely untested, her will is strong. Eventually she might make a decent knight-enchanter if she ever gets the proper training. Until then, she works on a daily basis to hone her mind and body and magic into perfection. She adopted the coldness of the templars, figuring that was how warriors are supposed to act. It is easy to see that is facade that she puts on to mask her own fears over ever losing control.

Opinions & Affiliations

Sadira is a devout Andrastrian, viewing the Chantry as necessary and thinking that it will one day restore order.

As for the mage/templar war she doesn't understand why the mages rebelled, but she does understand that mages are feared and feels that being taught to be terrified of magic is probably not the best way for the chantry to do things. Nor does she think Templars should go to extremes. Basically she thinks there needs to be another conclave, this time without something blowing up.

As a human, she has only encountered the rare few elves in the circle so is largely naive about the other races. She doesn't think herself superior to them so much as that they are alien. So yes she would get caught staring at a dwarf or a Dalish elf and she would ask about fanciful stories she heard. A Qunari would cause the natural panic/staring as well as the general fear of the ox-men.

She was a circle mage who agreed to the circles as being harsh but fair, feeling they were the best solution to teaching people with magic how to live. In other words she has swallowed chantry rhetoric 110%.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths:

  • Elemental magic: Storm
    •  She is adept at using storm magic, even if she tries not to use it unless necessary.
  • Basic training in Knight-Enchanter
    • Mostly on the physical side, having trained her mind and body for endurance and resolve. She does not yet know how to summon a blade of magical energy, nor the requirements for making a weapon to help her focus on such.
  • Extremely basic herb lore
    • She knows what Elfroot is?

Weaknesses:

  • Sheltered
    • Sadira has grown up largely in a circle for most of her life. She is unused to travel or to seeing the world at large. There are many new strange things out there that can just as easily distract her as well as thoughts and opinions that she is unfamiliar with.
  • Combat
    • She has done very little in the way of actual combat. Only minor scuffles against bandits with the group she was travelling with.

Inventory
  • Three sets of clothes
    • Two robes (one formal, one for day-to-day) training clothes (pants, boots, loose shirt)
  • Small travel chest
    • Full of sundry items, (books and small personal effects, hair brush, toiletries, etc)
  • Staff
    • basic staff, nothing fancy, just a focus for her using magic.

Motivation

Sadira has nowhere else to go now that the circles have been dissolved. She wants to serve a higher calling and find purpose in life as well as someone who might actually train her to be a Knight-Enchanter. Beyond that, she wants things to go back to normal with circles and templars.

SAMPLES

Sample 1

Her hands were sweaty as she clasped tightly to the smooth haft of her staff. The magically imbued wood hummed under her touch, ready to help  her channel magic should she need it. Desperately, she wished it would stop. That the magic would quiet down before she accidentally flung a lightening bolt at someone or her heart exploded from the adrenaline coursing through her.

Tension caused her shoulders to hunch as she muttered idly to herself the chant of light. The familiar rote offered some comfort and allowed her focus her will more sharply, quelling the nervous trembles in her arms and legs. She knew others might be watching her, seeing her muttering to herself and acting scared of her on shadow. She wasn't afraid to admit that she was scared. Sacred of the way the world was reshaping itself, scared of herself and the magic she continued to bear. This was her daily ritual, her morning rite. The preparation she did to make herself ready for the day ahead.

Without even thinking of it, she muttered more loudly, speaking more to herself than those around her, though not quiet enough that she couldn't have been overheard.

"Maker, I sometimes wish I'd been made tranquil."

Sample 2

Sadira watched as the inquisition soldiers trained. Some looked like templars the way they carried their shields. Others looked like people unused to fighting, she though perhaps that they might be villagers or farmers. There were even a few veterans scattered about. Those were harder to pick out, but Sadira scanned about until she noted their slightly different fighting styles. These people had the look of men and women familiar with combat, but unused to fighting as a templar might. While she was no expert in combat training, their unfamiliarity stood out, drawing her pale green eyes to gaze longer at them.

She'd come here to watch them the recruits train, hoping to learn more about combat without some templar or another accusing her of spying. Old habits died hard however as she'd done her best to be as inconspicuous as possible. Gone were the staff and customary robes of a mage, those were safely tucked away under her bedroll in her tent. Instead she was dressed in the clothes she usually wore for exercise, a loose sleeved shirt and comfortable pants. Not that anyone could see much of her clothes the way she was bundled up under her too threadbare blanket. The robes were admittedly warmer, but there was a certain freedom going about the tent camp without having people automatically side-eyeing her as a mage. Still, despite her best efforts, she was actually rather becoming rather conspicuous the more she tried to make herself blend into her surroundings. A spy she was not.
